Our customer specialises in the development and production of, among other things, metal containing textiles and yarns. As a result, the wastewater contains heavy metals, including valuable precious metals.
Challenge
The wastewater contained high concentrations of heavy metals that not only posed an environmental burden but also represented economic value. The challenge was to remove these metals efficiently, operate the process in an energy efficient manner and enable reuse of valuable raw materials within a reliable and automated treatment process.
Solution
The RedBox electrocoagulation technology from Morselt has a proven ability to effectively remove heavy metals from wastewater. The presence of metals in the water increases conductivity, ensuring optimal process performance with minimal treatment energy. An on site pilot test confirmed that the contaminants could be easily removed.
After electrocoagulation, the water is post treated using a chamber filter press, which separates the contaminants and captures them in a dry filter cake. Through thermal treatment, it is then possible to recover precious metals, including silver, from this filter cake for reuse.
For further optimisation, the customer chose a fully automatic filter press. This makes the entire process fully automated and remotely monitored. The filter cake is treated externally for the recovery of valuable metals.

By using the RedBox, the customer opts for a robust and sustainable wastewater treatment solution. The fully automated process and the recovery of valuable precious metals result in a favourable return on investment and low operational costs.
