Smart wastewater treatment with significant cost savings
Our customer was dealing with a complex wastewater stream containing chemicals, adhesives and minerals. The traditional approach, in which flocculants and polymers were used and the sludge was subsequently air-dried, proved to be increasingly unsustainable. This resulted in high costs and operational bottlenecks.
Challenge
The existing treatment method caused several issues. There were high costs for chemicals, the sludge was poorly dewaterable which resulted in high disposal costs, and the effluent contained an excessively high chlorine level.
Solution
The RedBox provided a smart and cost saving solution. With Morselt’s electrocoagulation technology, wastewater is treated without the use of flocculants or polymers. During a test with a mobile pilot installation, the effect was immediately visible. The sludge volume was reduced by a factor of three, which directly resulted in significant cost savings on sludge disposal and chemicals. The quality of the effluent also improved considerably.
Based on this successful pilot, Morselt designed and built a fully automated RedBox installation. This installation is precisely tailored to the customer’s processes and designed with an optimal return on investment.
