Green wastewater treatment for the production process
In November 2020, Morselt Watertechniek was commissioned by one of the largest cardboard packaging companies in the Netherlands to treat the rinse water from the production process. The wastewater contained several contaminants, which meant that discharge to the sewer was not permitted. Morselt developed a sustainable and fully automated solution for this challenge.
Challenge
The rinse water from the production process contained various contaminants that made direct discharge impossible. The main points of attention were:
- Copper
- COD
- Dyes
In addition, the installation had to operate continuously 24/7 with a capacity of 3,000 litres per hour, completely without the use of chemicals.
Solution
Based on laboratory tests with a representative wastewater sample, Morselt recommended an electrocoagulation solution in the form of the Morselt REDBOX. During electrocoagulation, dissolved and suspended substances are brought together into flocs under the influence of electrical voltage, which are then mechanically separated.
The complete installation consists of:
- Buffer tank
- Neutralisation
- Electrocoagulation system (REDBOX)
- Chamber filter press
- Sampling system
The installation was digitally dimensioned in advance and fully automated to ensure stable and reliable operation.
Result
- Copper: < 0.05 mg/l
- COD reduction: approximately 60 percent
- Dyes completely removed, colourless effluent
The treatment installation operates stably 24/7 and meets all required discharge standards. This provides the cardboard packaging company with a sustainable, reliable and future proof wastewater solution.
